Basic Necessities has received a total of $7,250.00 in grants from The Walmart Community Grants Team.
Three grants were awarded from the following local stores:
Basic Necessities Directors Pam Rowell and Debbie Hollis will utilize the Walmart Community Grants to provide diapers, period products, and incontinence supplies to people who live at or below the poverty level in the ArkLaTex Region.
“So many of our neighbors are unemployed now due to COVID. The poverty rate in our region normally hovers around 50%, and the gender pay gap & low minimum wages have disproportionately affected local families for generations. These same families are now suffering the effects of business closures, job losses, and illness or death caused by the Coronavirus. Public assistance programs do not cover non-food items like diapers and menstrual products. We only began distributing these supplies in July 2020, and we have already delivered 12,000 diapers.” says Hollis.
In 2019, Walmart stores and clubs provided more than $42 million in local grants, which are designed to address the unique needs of the communities where they operate.
“We are thrilled to support your work in our communities and share your desire to provide local impact. By receiving this grant, you are part of a long history of Walmart’s commitment to giving back to the communities where we operate,” states Kabir Kumar, Senior Director of Community Giving for Walmart Giving.
Currently, Basic Necessities has a waiting list of 95 families.
